The two faces statue
The two faces statue is located in the façade of Antigos Paços do Conselho that was built in 1877, this statue represents an image of a warrior and consequently there is a legend associated with him.
The legend tells about a battle, at that time the king was D. João I and the king ordered that the soldiers from Guimarães and Barcelos fight off the invaders, however when the soldiers from Barcelos saw the invader force they start running in retreat and therefore the Guimarães soldiers had to divide in two fronts and that’s why it´s called the statue of the 2 faces because it´s a reference to the fact the soldiers of Guimarães fought in 2 sides. (The second face is in the stomach).
