São Torcato Monastery
A sanctuary that is located in the village of S. Torcato and the beginning of the construction was in 1825 and it was finished only in 2015.
This monastery has very specific architectural characteristics because it remotes to the classical, renascent, gothic and romantic style therefore we can say that it is very unique due to the fact that it adopts various types of architecture.
Inside of this impotent monastery there`s the preserved body of the saint with the same name and is thought to be the first martyr of Christianism of the Iberian Peninsula because of this many pilgrims visit this monastery when they are on their way to Santiago Compostela.
On the 27 of February there`s a small pilgrimage, also known as the 27 fair and on the first weekend of July it happens the Big Pilgrimage of S. Torcato and these two religious festivities attract thousands of people every year.
The village of S. Torcato is within the city of Guimarães and it’s located only 15 minutes by car from our hotel therefore you will have a privileged location.
